BU CBCS Regulations
Bangalore University Regulations governing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the UG and PG programmes with multiple exit options in Science and Commerce (Framed under section 44(1)(c) of the KSU Act 2000)
Highlights of the regulations
  • The restructured CBCS is aimed to make the product of the university on par with the global practices in terms of academic standards and evaluation strategies, retaining the structures of the present UG and PG programmes.
  • Multiple exit options with multiple degrees introduced from the academic year 2014 – 15.
    • Associate Degree (Advance Diploma) after two years ( 4 semesters) :
      Total Credits = 64 with 16 credits per semester

    • Bachelors degree (B.Sc., B.Com., BCA, BBM) after three years ( 6 semesters) :
      Total credits = 104 (additional 40 credits)
      with 20 credits additional in V/VI semesters

    • Bachelor's degree with Honors in a subject of the student's choice after four years (8 semesters) (B.Sc.(Hons), B.Com.(Hons), BCA (Hons) , BBM (Hons) :
      Total Credits = 156 (additional 52 credits)
      With 26 credits additional in VII/VIII semesters

    • Integrated Masters degree (M.Sc.(integrated), M.Com. (integrated)) after 5 years (10 semesters) :
      Total Credits = 204 (additional 48 credits)
      With 24 credits each in IX/X semester

    • NOTE : There is no fifth year programme in respect of BCA and BBM

  • Transfer is permitted within the university for the same combination of the course
  • Transfer to other universities is permitted only when the candidate has passed all the subjects of previous semesters/years as the case may be.
  • Minimum Marks for Pass :
    • 35% in each subject and aggregate of 40% in theory and IA put together
    • 40% marks in practical examination
